San Antonio International Airport Transfers

To transfer between San Antonio, Texas and San Antonio International Airport outside the city is easy and there are a few options available whether you are looking to transfer to or from the airport. There are a few options available including rental cars, public transportation buses or taxi cabs.

Rental Cars – The rental car companies at San Antonio Airport are located in the Consolidated Car Rental Facility that sits opposite Terminal B next to the Short Term Parking Garage. To get there from either of the terminals is easy. Just take the elevator to the Mezzanine Level in Terminal B and cross the Sky Bridge. It is recommended to book your vehicle in advance, but some companies may serve walk-up customers as well.

When returning a vehicle please follow the instructions from the rental car company. The various companies have varying opening hours, including a couple with 24 hour service.

Public Transportation Buses – The local public transportation agency of San Antonio is called VIA Metropolitan Transit, or just VIA for short, and they operate bus route 5 that serves the airport and downtown San Antonio with a bus ride that takes approximately 30 minutes. The cost for the journey is $1.30 and tickets can be purchased on the bus. Day passes are available for $2.75 for those planning to ride other buses or services in the system the same day.

The bus stop is located outside the arrivals level, on the Lower Roadway, and at the far end of Terminal B. Cross the marked crosswalk to the outer curb after exiting the terminal.

Taxis – Taxi cabs can be found in the Ground Transportation area of the airport on the outer curbside at Terminal A. Taxis that serve the airport have permits to do so. The journey to/from downtown San Antonio will cost $25-$30 and take around 20 minutes depending on the exact location of destination/origin. More details about taxis to and from San Antonio Airport.

Hotel Shuttles – Hotels that offer an airport shuttle service to their guests, complimentary or at additional charges, will collect their guests on curbside outside the baggage claim area on arrivals level. A kiosk with a courtesy phone to call and confirm with the hotel in question, if they offer this service, is available in the baggage claim area.

RideShares – RideShare companies with permits to service the airport’s visitors may collect their customers on the outer commercial curbside on the lower level, arrivals, of Terminal A. These transfers are arranged by the traveler through the RideShare company’s app or website.

Shuttles and Limousines – Companies have to be approved and authorized to collect customers from the airport. These transfers are privately arranged by the traveler or someone representing the traveler in advance of the transfer.

Trains – Amtrak as well as other train companies serve San Antonio at the San Antonio train station located on 350 Hoefgen Ave less than a mile from the Alamo Plaza. More than 300 locations around the USA can be reached from here and hundreds of trains depart from the train station on a daily basis.

Greyhound – There is no Greyhound station at the airport, but there is one only a few minutes’ walk from downtown San Antonio.
